Emulators live on App Store and Alt Store AltStore available in EU for a €2/year subscription.
Jon Porter and Thomas Ricker write:
After we recently tested it in beta, the third-party iOS app store AltStore PAL is now live in the European Union thanks to Apple’s compliance with the region’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). The store requires a €1.50 (plus tax) annual subscription to cover Apple’s Core Technology Fee (CTF) for installing the app marketplace itself.
...
The new app marketplace is arriving with two apps developed by Riley Testut: Delta, an emulator capable of playing NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS games; and Clip, a clipboard manager that’s forbidden by Apple. The store is the work of Testut and his business partner Shane Gill.
Meanwhile, Delta is also available in Apple's App Store. It seems to suggest that Apple clearly allowed ROMs to ensure that people have less of a reason to install Alt Store in EU.
I downloaded Delta and it works as advertised. In fact, it's a delightful app and I am bummed that I didn't get a chance to enjoy this until EU had to force Apple into do this. Were it available sooner, my son would have been introduced to pokemon on an iOS device. Missed opportunities like this will now be more visible and I hope they take notice while they laugh and count their trillions :)
